| Bio: | I am a writer with, currently, seventy-some novels published, most of them either military SF or military technothrillers. Some SF is written under my name; some SF comes out under the pseudonym "Ian Douglas." The technothrillers appear under the pseudonym "H. Jay Riker." My latest book is my first nonfiction, from Citadel Press. It's called The Science of the Craft, and is about magic, witchcraft, psychic phenomenon, and hands-on healing techniques, and how those may be related to what we now know, or think we know, about quantum physics. I am also a practicing witch, and enjoy teaching informal classes on the topic. I have found here the fulfillment, sense of purpose, and personal satisfaction that I missed in past spiritual walks, including both fundamentalist Christianity and atheism. I am now in the process of recovering from a genuine living nightmare, one involving an unholy explosion of slanders, falsehoods, and malicious gossip about me within the Wiccan community in Maine. These slanders cost me my coven and, ultimately, my marriage, ending with me divorced by my much-loved wife of 28 years and moving back to my beloved western Pennsylvania to start all over. I am still bitter about events of the past couple of years, but am actively working to heal myself. At least I'm no longer suicidal. I am a third-level Reiki Master. I am a member of Mensa, and active within that organization in Western Pennsylania and in Ohio. I have one daughter--now happily ensconced on the other side of the continent--whom I'm incredibly proud of, and two cats. I am an ardent believer in women's rights, the ethical applications of witchcraft, and the assumption that our greatest foe is ignorance, the root of all fear. | |||||||
